S.O.L. in S.D.

I just spent the last three days in Orange County, trying to escape the fires of San Diego county. Ten in all? Perhaps it was 11. I lost count. Not to discount the fires that occurred throughout southern California, but without a doubt, San Diego county was hit hardest. To recap, I got a call from my roommate early Monday morning (while at Tbear's place) telling me that I may want to get my stuff since the neighborhood next door was told to evacuate. So, that's what I did. Everything was fine for awhile until Tbear got the call from authorities about 24 hrs later. I knew this was coming - I had woken up at about 5AM Tuesday morning to a smoke filled house. I could see cars whizzing by just outside the window. I was scared at this point and woke up my boyfriend so we could get the hell out of dodge. Problem is we couldn't head north, the Fallbrook fire had closed the 15 freeway. We couldn't head south because of the fires in that direction. So we headed West, then North. Thank you to my dear friends for letting me stay at their place this whole time. They even fed us well! Tomorrow I finally return home.

I beg your pardon, but the San Diego fires definitely pale in comparison the the highly publicized Ladera Ranch fire. :P

A little reminder, so that you may never forget the ignorance of the OC and its "all about me" mentality:

Burning for 4 days now, fires in Southern California have caused dark skies and blown choking smoke and ash through Ladera Ranch. On October 22, Firefighters from Ladera Ranch, Coto de Caza and San Juan Capistrano battled a hillside brush fire adjacent to the entrance to Covenant Hills. Traffic was diverted out of Covenant Hills until crews could establish that the fire was out. No evacuations were ordered.
The Santiago Canyon fire, just a few miles to the northeast of Ladera Ranch burned wooden power line poles and several vehicles and structures. Mandatory evacuations were sporadic. Firefighters had 0% containment on the fire and were taking a defensive position near homes along the canyon.

Burning to the south of Ladera Ranch is the Fallbrook fire at Camp Pendleton. CDF air resources have been laying down lines of retardant in an attempt to slow the advance of the fire. Current weather predictions show winds out of the east at 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour possible. Stay tuned to Ladera Portal for updates affecting Ladera Ranch.
